Vermont's public-safety week was dominated by roadway violence and property crime, with the Vermont State Police reporting a road-rage arrest involving a loaded handgun on Interstate 89, a Woodford vehicle-theft case that ended with a Bennington man held on $50,000 bail, and an aggravated domestic assault in Stockbridge that landed a man in jail without bail. Warrant arrests, impaired-driving stops and a hit-and-run rounded out a busy stretch for troopers from the Northeast Kingdom to the Massachusetts line. Bennington: State police say Griford Saupin, 49, of Bennington was arrested July 16 in connection with a motor-vehicle theft reported June 28 on Vermont Route 9 in Woodford. Troopers allege Saupin is responsible for grand larceny, petit larceny from a vehicle, operation without the owner's consent and driving with a criminally suspended license. He was lodged at Marble Valley Correctional Facility on $50,000 bail and ordered to appear in Bennington criminal court. Read more

Chittenden: A Mississippi woman was arrested after a reported road-rage encounter on Interstate 89. Police say a Shelburne motorist reported that a vehicle tailgated him and that the driver pointed a firearm at him as she passed near Bolton on July 15. Troopers stopped the vehicle in Williston and say they seized a loaded handgun. Rashaundra Green, 29, of Quitman, Mississippi, was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated disorderly conduct, two counts of reckless endangerment and false information to police, and was lodged for lack of $10,000 bail. Orleans: A road-crew flagger was seriously injured July 15 when she was struck by a pickup truck on Route 105 in Jay. State police say Renee Orzolek, 49, of Craftsbury was directing traffic near Leavitt Circle when she was hit by a 2025 GMC Canyon driven by Colby Currier, 88, of Troy. Currier, who was not hurt, was cited for negligent operation. Orzolek was taken to North Country Hospital with injuries described as serious but not life-threatening. Read more

Rutland: Troopers arrested Michael Greene, 39, of West Rutland during a July 15 traffic stop on U.S. Route 7 in Clarendon. Police say Greene had an active in-state warrant for failing to appear on a suspended-license charge and was found to be driving with a criminally suspended license at the time of the stop. He was processed at the Rutland barracks and transported to Marble Valley Correctional Facility, held on $200 bail. Read more

Windham: State police arrested Anthony Pellerin, 36, of Brattleboro after responding July 16 to a reported suspicious incident on Rockingham Road in Rockingham. Troopers say an investigation determined Pellerin had violated his court-ordered conditions of release. Windsor: Joseph A. Fuster, 43, of Stockbridge was arrested July 13 following an investigation into a family fight, state police say. Fuster was taken into custody without incident and processed at the Royalton barracks, then lodged at the Southern State Correctional Facility without bail. He was cited to appear in Windsor County Superior Court to answer a charge of first-degree aggravated domestic assault. Police do not release the names of domestic-violence victims. Read more

St. Johnsbury — DUI-Drugs in Danville: Troopers say they stopped a vehicle for multiple violations on U.S. Route 2 in Danville on July 16 and determined the driver was impaired by drugs. Favour Ujah, 30, of Lyndon was taken into custody, processed and released on a citation to appear in Caledonia County court in October. Read more

St. Johnsbury — Aggravated domestic assault in Bradford: Troopers responding to a reported family fight in Bradford on July 15 allege Yasin Ibrahim, 24, assaulted a household member, violated a no-trespass order, interfered with access to emergency services and behaved disorderly toward neighbors. Ibrahim was lodged at NERCF for lack of $2,500 bail and cited to Orange County criminal court. Read more

Berlin — Abuse-order violation in Washington: State police say they were called July 15 to a reported restraining-order violation on Vermont Route 110 in the town of Washington. Troopers identified David Henault Jr., 23, nearby and allege he violated an abuse-prevention order. He was processed at the Berlin barracks and cited to Orange County criminal court. Read more

St. Albans — Hit-and-run in Sheldon: Troopers say a vehicle crashed through a fence on East Sheldon Road in Sheldon on July 11 and the driver, believed to be intoxicated, left before police arrived. After further investigation, state police located James R. Burfoot, 63, of Georgia and cited him for leaving the scene of an accident, with a September court date. Read more

Berlin — DUI on Interstate 89: State police say a driver was reported failing to maintain his lane on Interstate 89 South late on July 15. A trooper stopped the vehicle and arrested Elwood Rodrigues, 37, of Reading on suspicion of driving under the influence after field sobriety testing.
